Message from the Chair of the EMVCo Board of Managers

With 2024 marking EMVCo’s 25th year of operation, October’s co-located Board of Advisors and Technical Meetings in Lisbon offered a timely opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary success of EMV® technology and the fundamental role it plays in enabling global commerce. On behalf of EMVCo, I would like to recognise the significant contributions of past and present participants in shaping the development of EMV Specifications over the past three decades.

While 25 years is a long time in the world of technology, it is striking how EMV and the supporting infrastructure is continuing to help ensure the next wave of payments innovation is underpinned by security and convenience.

One of the new areas EMVCo is exploring is how EMV technology can support a simple and consistent charging payment experience for electric vehicles (EVs). EMVCo held a virtual Special Interest Meeting on Tuesday 10 December, focused on the use of EMV Secure Remote Commerce (SRC) technology and payment solutions for EV charging. For more information on the EV Open Payments (EVOP) initiative, all interested stakeholders can sign up for dedicated updates here.

EMVCo also announced it has achieved ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation for its security evaluation processes. Our new status as an accredited certification body recognises the value and quality of EMVCo security product evaluations in enabling the deployment of safe and secure payment solutions.

As we turn our attention towards the coming year, we encourage all interested stakeholders to make note of EMVCo’s upcoming meeting schedule and explore opportunities for participation. Please also find below a summary of recent news, technical updates, educational resources and events. We encourage you to share these with your colleagues and industry peers to support further understanding of EMVCo’s work.

Soumya Chakrabarty
Chair of the EMVCo Board of Managers, 2024 – 2025
